Mom Moments

The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn’t been, and until the end of the world, there will not be another like him. (Or her) ~ Pablo Casals

Dear sisters,

Happy May! I just love this time of year don’t you? The long wait for leaves to pop and first blossoms to bloom is finally over! Now we can get down to business tending our suburban gardens and farmsteads. I’ll share my “new starts ” from the greenhouse before this post comes to an end but with Mother’s day just around the corner I can’t help thinking back on some of my most memorable

” MOM MOMENTS “.

Grab a Kleenex box and your favorite comfy chair. This post might go longer than usual and there may be some happy tears!

You Need a Farm

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ~Howard Thurman
I’ll never forget these words uttered by a dear friend of mine as she walked through our suburban backyard to see our chickens and coop for the first time several years ago. She said, “YOU NEED A FARM”! “Yes, I do “, I quipped as we made our way closer to the girls. She couldn’t have been more SPOT ON. Little did she know that having a FARM of my own is something I have ALWAYS wanted, but, HE has had other (wonderful) plans for me, all of which have led me straight to my DREAM FARM…

Cottage Fever

“Cottage Fever” is a powerful force! It never really goes away; it just goes dormant for the winter. ~ Deb Bosworth

In our neck of sandy Cape Cod Bay we get hit with a double- dose of spring fever this time of year! The gardening bug starts biting in early February ( even though we are usually still buried in snow ) and our tiny off-grid Cottage by the Sea begins to whisper our names ever so softly. Thoughts and images of past summers begin to swim in our heads and hearts, reminding us that “The Cottage ” awaits. With each passing day those whispers grow louder beckoning us to return to the BEACH!

Playing House

Dorothy in ~ The Wizard of Oz

I just love it when old ways come home to roost don’t you? What do I mean when I say “old ways”? Well, I mean the SIMPLE things of course. Things like a hot and hearty bowl of homemade stew on a cold winter’s day, clearing away last year’s clutter and rearranging furniture for a fresh perspective! The kinds of things that don’t cost more than a day’s worth of groceries and a little elbow grease. You might say I’ve been indulging in one of my favorite pastimes. PLAYING HOUSE!
