 Can you believe it’s been two years since we had our first visit together on the shorelines? Me neither! I feel so blessed to be able to reach out to you from my beach chair in the sand twice a month! I can’t help but feel sentimental about this little farmgirl milestone of ours. When I think back to what my life was like before MaryJanesFarm, before the Beach Farmgirl Blog came to life, before I even knew what being a farmgirl truly meant, life was good. Dear Sisters,

Happy March! Only 20 days until spring and I’m counting each one! I’ve got a case of cabin fever like you wouldn’t believe. We New Englanders almost skated by with another mild winter but February brought the Blizzard of 2013 leaving thousands without power for as much as a week or more followed by more snow, rain, sleet, wind and colder temps. The BEACH farmgirl is living with a house full of Crabby Patties, herself included! No wonder I’m craving the sight of spring florals, lace, colorful, crisp, cheery linens, sunshine, and a warm breeze blowing through my hair. That’s not likely to happen anytime soon so while the wind whips outside I’ve been whipping up some farmgirl sundries that SCREAM SPRING for my booth at the Antique Mall…

I hope each and every one of you enjoyed your 2012 holiday season and you’re ready to tackle all 2013 has in store for you! We are all fighting a repirartory flu bug in my house but that hasn’t put the kibosh on my plans of opening up a little booth in our local Antique Mall this month with my mom. Instead of hitting the end of the season sales at the mall we’ve been treasure hunting in our local thrift stores, my basement ( and on EBay ) for vintage treasures to fill our booth BURLAP AND BLING~ PIECES OF THE PAST WITH SASS! Everything old is new again and we’re going back to the future in this post for a sneak preview of a few of some of our vintage treasures and a brief history lesson or two! Living near the sea is something this desert farmgirl promised herself she’d never, ever take for granted. After eleven years of being docked bayside I am still in awe of the power of the sea to calm any rough waters I may come in to. This month in particular has left all of us feeling adrift in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy. All I know is that we have to keep on walking in love and faith and do our best to shine our brightest when it’s our turn in the sun. Those in darker, stormier times need our rays of hope to guide them in their journey back to the light. And so, in true farmgirl fashion that is what I intend to do. Before we jump into that sleigh for our ride over the Sagamore Bridge let’s join hands in a prayer for peace and hope.

Then it’s off to Cape Cod for some Christmas spirit BEACH STYLE!

Happy Thanksgiving from the shorelines! By the time some of you read this you might be diving into your leftovers already but let’s not jump too far ahead, I haven’t even roasted the turkey yet! Yep, you read that right… I’m hosting dinner this year for the first time in years and while I’m always grateful to be a guest my heart sings when we have our family and friends over for the holidays. I’m not one to go over the top with lavish decorations but I do love a warm, cozy, and festive atmosphere during harvest season. But, I don’t want to spend a lot of money creating it. So, what’s a farmgirl to do? Go a gathering that’s what! Come on in and let’s talk turkey and decorating and shopping and sweet potatoes and, and, and…Oh, just come in already!!!

Dear sisters,

I hope this pre-Thanksgiving note finds you all well today and that our Beach sisters along the Eastern Seaboard are getting the relief they need from the wrath of hurricane Sandy not to mention the ” no name ” Nor’ easter storm we are smack dab in the middle of. We’ve lost power twice today and many more North Eastern communities have been hit with record snow fall over the last two days. MaryJanesFarm has created a Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief fund and offering a percentage of all sales to the victims of Hurricane Sandy and this Nor’easter! High winds and heavy rains are my sound track today but snow is not predicted for us further up the coastline. I think it’s going to be a doozy of a winter! That being said, seasonal changes abound for better or worse. After all, as a “stay at home mom” I take my role as “the keeper” of our home pretty darned seriously! It’s part of my job description to shore us up during stormy weather and to do my best to keep things running smooth as the bay on a flat calm day. Come on in out of the sleet and snow for a hot drink and a nice long chat about keeping the harbor light burning in a modern world.
